When practiced consistently and correctly, yoga will enhance your energyon all levels of being, from physical to spiritual and everything in between. Over time you will become stronger and more mentally, emotionally and physically flexible.
When you enter a yoga studio – allow yourself to be in truly safe, non-judgmental space, where you can release mental or emotional tensions – feelings of fear, doubt and disbelief. By practicing yoga – a powerful sense of the present moment will grow in your daily life. This allows you to make better decisions, to be more efficient and more balanced. You can then let go of trying to be someone or something, and simply be yourself andexpress yourself through yoga.
During a yoga class you may experience strongemotions and stress in certain areas of your mind and body which you may have previously suppressed. I believe that it is best to experience these feelings when they happen without resistance– even if it means laughing or crying during class – I’ve been there!
Bringing awareness to your breath whether in meditation or in attempting a challenging posture can provide stability and strength. It is best to engage your breath fully, and to listentoinstructions as carefully as possible – this increases your mental focus and allows for a more accurate posture – from which you will derive the maximum conditioning and healing effect. It is also crucial to listen to your body and respect your limits – in order for change and growth to be meaningful and sustainable your practice needs to be gradual.
Ultimately, I believe that practicing yoga encourages practitioners to cultivate a greater awareness of the way in which we live our lives. By challenging ourselves to look inwards and make micro changes internally, we can develop a more complete outlookof the world and where we fit into it, becoming calm, balanced and more whole.
In time you may also become more aware deeper desires that are closer to the core of who you are, not what external influences may have imposed on you. You will be empowered to make decisions of letting go, moving on, building, cultivating and ultimately bring yourself closer to those things that you truly need – closer to your own sense of fulfillment.
